SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, launched its first flight to Koh Samui, Thailand, early this morning.
The much-anticipated inaugural flight MI 772 departed Singapore Changi Airport at 0810 hours and reached the idyllic Thai resort island at 0900 hours. The return flight, MI 771, departed Koh Samui at 1030 hours and is expected to reach Singapore at 1325 hours today (all times local).
Koh Samui is SilkAir’s third destination in Thailand, after Phuket and Chiang Mai, and the 36th destination in the airline’s network. The thrice-weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are operated with the A319 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy Class.
To mark this special occasion, passengers on the first flight out of Singapore were presented with a set of special souvenirs from Koh Samui, comprising a coin pouch made out of coconut husk and a selection of Thai candy, called kalamae, in betel nut, coconut and pandan flavours. Passengers travelling on the first flight out of Koh Samui received exclusively produced SilkAir notebooks.
“We are delighted to add Koh Samui to our growing network of destinations. We are confident that many will enjoy this beautiful beach destination which is renowned for its white sandy beaches and blue inviting waters,” said SilkAir’s Chief Executive, Mr. Marvin Tan.
Customers can also look forward to additional flight options to Koh Samui with SilkAir’s pending codeshare arrangement with Bangkok Airways, which operates a daily non-stop service on this route, leaving Koh Samui at 1635 hours and departing from Singapore at 2010 hours.
