SilkAir to equip Next-Generation Boeing 737s with Rockwell Collins’ new MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radar

SINGAPORE (Feb. 11, 2014) – Singapore-based SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has selected a comprehensive Rockwell Collins avionics package, including the new MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radar, for 23 Next-Generation Boeing 737s.

SilkAir also selected Rockwell Collins DispatchSM 100 service and asset management program for its new Boeing fleet.

“With its selection of MultiScan ThreatTrack, SilkAir’s passengers will experience safer flights because of the system’s ability to provide more defined atmospheric threat information to the pilots than ever before,” said Colin Mahoney, senior vice president, International and Services Solutions for Rockwell Collins. “SilkAir’s operational efficiency will be further enhanced with Dispatch 100, which maximizes aircraft availability with guaranteed spares and predictable maintenance costs.”

MultiScan ThreatTrack goes beyond hail and lightning prediction within a thunderstorm cell and alerts pilots to these significant threats adjacent to or above the cell. In addition, the new radar is the first in the industry to feature two levels of turbulence detection—severe and ride-quality—which more accurately informs flight crews of the type of turbulence in their path.

Also included in SilkAir’s selection are Rockwell Collins’ GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR)—the first ever certified GPS Landing System receiver, automatic detection finder (ADF), distance measuring equipment (DME), VOR short-range radio navigation system and HF/VHF radios.

“We look forward to bringing Rockwell Collins’ innovative, safety-enhancing avionics solutions and its world-class service and support to our new fleet,” said Goh Boon Hwee, vice president, Operations, SilkAir.
