With the arrival of China Airlines, Shanghai Airlines and China Eastern scheduled for 2011, a total of 135 destinations will be offered by SkyTeam in Greater China.
China Southern, with its hubs in Guangzhou and Beijing, is the largest airline in China and the third largest in the world. It flies to 898 cities in 169 countries. China Southern has been a member of the SkyTeam alliance since November 2007. China Southern’s particularly extensive network throughout the world makes it a privileged partner for all SkyTeam member airlines.
China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines merged in 2009. Together, these airlines, both based in Shanghai, will provide SkyTeam with 32 new destinations. This new membership, which was decided on 16 April, should take effect by mid 2011. China Eastern currently operates flights to 151 destinations worldwide and Shanghai Airlines 183 – including 170 domestic routes.
China Airlines is the largest airline based in Taiwan. Since it was founded almost 50 years ago, China Airlines is the leading carrier over the Taiwan Strait, with flights to close to 93 destinations. It is due to join the alliance in mid 2011.
