Southern Air is the first US carrier to join the global customer community of the AMOS MRO software. The Norwalk, Connecticut-based cargo airline chose the IT system after an extensive evaluation process to manage their maintenance, repair and overhaul activities. Manufacturer Swiss-AS and distribution partner Lufthansa Systems announced the contract which came after the recent setting-up of a distribution agreement and an AMOS USA office.
Southern Air has a substantial growth plan including the addition of further Boeing 747 and Boeing 777F aircraft in the near future which will also imply a significant increase of the current workforce of more than 700, in particular the current 150 MRO system users. In order to meet the demands of this positive growth plan a replacement MRO system was required. The implementation of AMOS will support Southern Air’s strategy and vision to be one of the most successful international cargo airlines in the world.
The implementation project will culminate with a Go-Live that will see all of the core modules running in the company. Southern Air has already decided to implement the system without further adjustment because the solution already has the knowledge and know-how of over almost 100 customers incorporated into the procedures and processes.
“Southern Air is a major player in the American cargo market, and it is an important achievement to win a US-based customer shortly after the launch of AMOS in the region. AMOS perfectly complements Lufthansa Systems’ comprehensive portfolio. It is clear that this market requires a state-of-the-art solution to manage the complex aircraft maintenance requirements,” states Klaus Bernhardt, Senior Vice president Sales Americas at Lufthansa Systems.
From its Norwalk headquarters, Southern Air offers services including long-term lease including aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI), air cargo solutions, on-demand charters and humanitarian relief flights. Its customer circle comprises the world’s flag carriers, charter brokers, shippers and governments. Southern Air has over sixty years of experience and operates a fleet of 13 Boeing 747. In early 2010, Southern Air added two Boeing 777F to its fleet and will add two more in 2012.
