TAP carried 517,000 more passengers in 2013

By the end of 2013 TAP had carried a total of 10,703,000 passengers, representing an increase of 5% on the previous year. This was due to a significant improvement in the flight load factor, which increased from 76.8% to 79.4%, representing a 2.6 pp increase. It should be noted that the company managed this growth with the same number of planes and the same capacity on offer.

The increase in the number of passengers in December alone (8.3%) contributed strongly to the final result, with the biggest increases being on flights to the Madeira and Azores autonomous regions, which experienced a 12.2% increase, and Africa, which saw a 13.5% rise.

Over the period from January to December, Europe, with more than 443,000 thousand passengers (up 7.2%), was vital for overall growth, while the number of passengers to Africa rose by 7.5%, and those to Venezuela increased by 12.6%.

Domestic flights (both in mainland Portugal and the autonomous regions), experienced a fall in passenger numbers during most of the year, although there was a remarkable upturn towards the end of the year, which ended with a 1% increase in the volume of traffic carried.
