Airline sets new historic record and exceeds 2010 target
TAP flew its nine millionth passenger in 2010 today, thus reaching a new historic record for passengers flown in one year while also exceeding its 2010 target. The nine millionth passenger was a TAP customer who boarded flight TP3627, departing from Lisbon at 2:15 pm to Funchal.
As at 25 December, TAP had already flown 8,935,048 passengers in 2010, which represents a 7.7% increase over the previous year. The airline’s previous record was set in 2008, when it flew 8,740,000 passengers.
TAP’s accumulated load factor for 2010 is 74.5%, 6.1 percentage points more than in 2009. Its productivity, measured in PKU (passenger kilometres used) rose 13.6%, while supply (PKO, or passenger kilometres offered) grew by 3.4%. Cargo recorded an increase of 15.3% in accumulated growth for 2010.
TAP’s new record was set on the same day that Lisbon Airport moved its 14 millionth passenger in 2010. This was also a TAP customer who boarded flight TP4199 departing for the Brazilian city of Campinas, in São Paulo state.
TAP is responsible for 55.7% of all passengers moved through Lisbon Airport.
