Tigerair launches direct flights to Maldives – land of never ending summers

Singapore, 27 January 2014: Tigerair added to its growing network of sun-sand-sea destinations with inaugural flights into Malé, capital of the Republic of Maldives this weekend. An inauguration ceremony was held yesterday at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport yesterday, and senior officials from the Maldives government and airport officials were in attendance as the Tigerair A320 aircraft was greeted with a water salute from the taxi way as it landed in the Maldives.

Holidaymakers who have long wished to visit the pristine archipelago can now do so on Tigerair’s four weekly flights departing from Singapore every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

“The Maldives is widely considered to be a premier tropical beach destination and it is one of the best idyllic spots to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of our modern lifestyles. As the only no-frills airline flying direct from Singapore to Maldives, we hope to make this exotic holiday destination even more accessible than before to everyone, from families to honeymooners to beach lovers,” said Mr Ho Yuen Sang, Chief Operating Officer at Tigerair.

An archipelago nation that comprises 1,190 islands in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is renowned for its natural pristine beaches and island environment. As Asia’s smallest country by population and land area, the natural beauty and splendor of the Maldives have won millions of globetrotters over thanks to its famous crystal clear waters, hospitable people, gorgeous sunsets and powdery white sand beaches.

The addition of the Maldives to Tigerair’s growing sun-sand-sea network means beach lovers are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing their next beach getaway. Just last year, Tigerair added Langkawi and Boracay to perennial favourites, Bali, Krabi and Phuket.
