Tigerair Launches Direct Flights To The Seaport City of Ningbo

SINGAPORE – Commencing 26 December 2013, Tigerair will launch three flights every fortnight to the seaport city of Ningbo, making it the airline’s eighth Greater China destination. The other destinations include Guangzhou, Haikou, Hong Kong, Lijiang, Macau, Shenzhen and Taipei.

Located in the northeast of Zhejiang province, Ningbo is an especially popular destination among business and leisure travelers alike, thanks to its bustling port and excellent connectivity to regional Chinese cities.

Reputed as a commercial seaport city dating back to Tang and Song dynasties, Ningbo has established itself as a key exporter of electrical products, industrial tools, textiles, and food. Today, Ningbo ranks second only to Shanghai in terms of the amount of cargo handled, with exports totaling nearly USD 40 billion annually.

Ningbo also boasts an impressive transport infrastructure, providing easy access to other major cities in the region such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wenzhou and Nanjing. The Hangzhou Bay Bridge for example, provides access across the entire Hangzhou Bay, and is the World’s longest trans-oceanic bridge that connects Ningbo to the municipalities of Shanghai. Ningbo’s high-speed railway lines, the Ningbo- Taizhou-Wenzhou (Yong Tai Wen) Railway and Hangyong High Speed Railway connects Ningbo with Zhejiang’s two other major cities, Wenzhou and Hangzhou, via bullet train. Travelling at speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour, commuting between Ningbo and Hangzhou takes a mere 26 minutes today.

To make it even more convenient for commuters, free bus shuttle services are available from 27 December 2013, between Ningbo Lishe International Airport and the East Railway Station located downtown in the city. Travelers can hence access bullet train services to and from Beijing, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Wenzhou and Xiamen.

Ningbo is also home to a variety of tourist attractions, including the Tianyi Pavilion Museum built in 1516. Believed to be the oldest surviving library in China, the museum contains handwritten Confucian classics and extremely rare local historical records and tablets. Tianyi Square, located in the heart of Ningbo, is also a popular upmarket shopping complex frequented by the affluent in search of boutique and luxury products. Those travelling with children will also enjoy a visit to the Mount Phoenix Theme Park, where a variety of rides are available at very affordable prices.
