ˇ Positive trend continues in 2014: capacity utilization rises to 72.4 percent
Austrian Airlines carried 716,900 passengers in the month of January 2014. This comprises a decline of 0.9 percent from the prior-year level. The offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was 3.5 percent higher than in the previous year. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) were up by 4.3 percent. Capacity utilization (passenger load factor) improved by 0.6 percentage points from the previous year to 72.4 percent. “We adjusted capacity in January to reflect the lower level of demand. In this way we succeeded in raising capacity utilization also at the beginning of the new year”, explains Karsten Benz, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines. ”The strong growth on the long-haul routes shows that our expansion to North-America and our investments in the product have been very well received. The satisfaction has increased massively”, he adds.
Europe
In January 2014, a total of about 597,100 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines in Europe. This comprises a drop of 2.0 percent compared to the previous year. The passenger load factor fell by 0.5 percentage points to 67.3 percent.
Intercontinental
In January 2014, the number of passengers carried on intercontinental flights operated by Austrian Airlines increased by 5.4 percent year-on-year to 119,800. The passenger load factor was up by 1.2 percentage points to 76.7 percent in comparison to the previous year.
