US Airways Begins Flights to Madrid and Dublin from Its Charlotte, N.C. Hub

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—US Airways (NYSE:LCC) customers have more ways to get to two favorite European cities when new, daily, seasonal summer service between the airline’s hub at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Madrid, Spain and Dublin, Ireland kicks off this weekend.

The new flights will operate through Sept. 30 and will complement US Airways’ daily nonstop service to both cities from Philadelphia, the airline’s international gateway. Madrid service begins Friday, May 13 and will be operated with Boeing B767-200ER aircraft with seating for 18 in Envoy, US Airways’ international business class, and 186 in the main cabin. Dublin service begins Saturday, May 14 and will be operated with Boeing B757-200 ETOPS aircraft with seating for 12 in Envoy and 164 in the main cabin.

Suzanne Boda, US Airways’ senior vice president of airport customer service, international and cargo said, “We’re deepening our commitment to growing our Charlotte hub by adding daily flights to two major European business and tourist destinations.”

The new flights bring the number of international destinations US Airways serves from Charlotte, its largest hub, to 31 – six cities in Europe and 25 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Last week, the airline reinstated seasonal summer service from Philadelphia to Athens, Greece; Glasgow, Scotland; Lisbon, Portugal; and Venice, Italy. Seasonal summer service to Barcelona, Spain, began in March.
