WIZZ AIR ANNOUNCES A BASE IN KOSICE THE AIRLINE’S 20TH OPERATING BASE

Kosice, 28 January: Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe,* today announced that it will open its 20th base in Kosice, Slovakia with one new Airbus A320 on 14 September. Coinciding with the delivery of the aircraft the airline will start operating 2 new routes from Kosice to Doncaster Sheffield and Milan Bergamo.

With the new Kosice services Wizz Air is now offering 11 weekly flights on 3 routes from Kosice, representing over 50% capacity growth year on year (October 2015). The airline believes its expansion in Slovakia, where it flies to two airports, will also benefit the local job market in aviation and tourism sectors as consumers will have access to more low cost services. At a press conference in Kosice today, József Váradi, Wizz Air’s CEO, said: "Today’s announcement underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to Slovakia. We started our operations in Slovakia just 1.5 years ago and already carried over 130,000 passengers on Kosice and Poprad routes. Slovakia is becoming our 12th country where we have established base operations. We look forward to bringing more low fares and attractive routes to Slovakian consumers and their visitors.”
