WOW air - First Airline To Fly Direct From Ireland To Iceland

15 January 2015: WOW air, Iceland’s only low-cost carrier and first ever airline to have scheduled flights direct from Ireland to Iceland, today announced details of the new service.

From today, flights can be purchased from just €49 and the airline will commence flying from Dublin on Tuesday 2 June 2015. Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with a flight time of two hours and 20 minutes.

Iceland has long been regarded as one of the ‘must see’ Nordic travel destinations. With a population of just over 300,000 people, Iceland is one of the least populated countries in the world. The result is spectacular natural scenery and untouched landscape for budding photographers and tourists to enjoy.

The country is famous for its hot springs, which are said to bring many health benefits. In June and July the country enjoys nearly 24 hours of sunlight, meaning many outdoor pursuits continue late on into the night including Midnight Golf for which Iceland has become famous for.

Iceland is considered one of the most liberal countries in the world. Almost half of government is made up of women, while in 2013 the country was run by the world’s only openly lesbian prime minister.

WOW air was founded by Icelandic serial entrepreneur Skuli Mogensen in November 2011. The airline flew its one millionth passenger in December 2014.

Announcing detail of the new route today, WOW air CEO, Skuli Mogensen said: ‘We are delighted to be the first airline to have scheduled flights direct from Ireland to Iceland. Both our countries have so much to offer visitors and we hope, that in launching this route, it allows people the opportunity to experience some wonderful trips to unique places both in Ireland and Iceland’.

WOW air was ranked among the best low-cost airlines in Europe at the 2013 and 2014 Skytrax World Airline Awards and was the youngest airline in the top ten.

WOW air will fly three times a week direct from Dublin to Reykjavik, with flights starting from just €49 one way. To book flights and for more information visit www.wowair.ie.
