Zimbabwe Airways has lost its second plane, a B777-200ER, registration 9M-MRM, over missed installment payments. The plane joins its sistership, registration 9M-MRL, which left the fleet a few weeks ago after being sold to Jet Midwest in Kansas.
Zimbabwe Airways had purchased the four B777s from Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in mid 2017.
Zimbabwe is currently going through a foreign currency crisis, leading to missed payments to MAS, who in-turn sold two of the planes as a result of the delay.
Two remaining two widebody aircraft, registrations 9M-MRQ and 9M-MRP, are expected to be delivered to Zimbabwe Airways in 2019 as they are fully paid for.
